something's fishy - santa barbara , ca

some long way away from los angeles is a place that is good for relaxing . filled with old people , college kids and goddam tourists , santa barbara is a good time made great with a beautiful reviewer on my arm and enough time and money to do it right .

it's a special occasion . and i'm told that something's fishy is not to be missed .

i am rarely confused with a patient man . i dont mind waiting my turn , but being told one thing - and then presented with an untimely alternative makes me scowl . at everyone .

this place is like benihana's , but with a sushi bar in the middle . exclusively frequented by sake bombed u.c.s.b. students , something's fishy can get loud when the student loan check comes . over the din of drunkeness my reviewette and i ordered salmon , tuna and yellowtail sashimi a spider roll , and some other things that i can't recall after the big bottle of hot sake .

but i do know that it had a white soy paper wrap and a few thick yamagobo roots in it .

what i do remember is : our chef was distinctively not japanese , but compotent , attentive , and gave us the down - low about the fake crab . being happy and full about our time there . despite the hassle of getting a spot at the bar .

total score out of a perfect five mishaco's :

minus     for fake crab !
